About

Olivia Hicks is a Brooklyn-based sports and environmental journalist specializing in the business, politics and culture behind Formula 1 for NPR and Motorsport.com. Over a race weekend, you can find her reporting live for The Independent. She is The Drive’s F1 correspondent for the 2025 season.

Experience

Her byline regularly appears in Race Tech Magazine as the publication’s environmental voice, along with regional and national U.S. and U.K. newspapers and magazines. She runs the Substack newsletter Formula Flash.

Education

Olivia has a degree in Environmental Journalism and attended the Columbia School of Journalism’s Publishing Course with a post-grad certificate obtained at Oxford University. That same year, she won the Society of Professional Journalists “Mark of Excellence” award for environmental coverage and podcasting.

Highlights

Despite growing up just 30 miles from the Iowa Speedway, it took moving across the globe for Olivia to discover her love of motorsport. Since her first time on-track reporting on Formula E, she has gone on to write about electric rally cars, all-female racing, IndyCar, and Formula 1 everywhere from the driest desert on earth to the streets of Monaco.

Fun Fact

Off-track, you can find her reading lengthy novels, listening to Irish hip-hop, not using an Oxford comma and obsessing over a new interest (right now it’s hockey). She (occasionally) posts pit-lane scenes on her Instagram.
